Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) will demonstrate its high-performance electric powertrain technology on one of North Americas most demanding motorsport events; the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado on 8 July.
Last year TMG set a new electric lap record at the Nurburgring Nordschleife with the road-legal TMG EV P001 car, a record which still stands.
TMG advanced electric and electronic department has spent the past months developing on an updated electric powertrain, which is more powerful and more durable than its predecessor.
That high-performance electric powertrain is the heart of the new TMG EV P002 car, which will compete at Pikes Peak as part of a project from Japanese company RK1 Inc. Multiple Japanese rally champion Fumio Nutahara will drive the car which features prominent branding from Yokohama.
Based on a Radical chassis, the TMG EV P002 has a predicted top speed of 240km/h in Pikes Peak configuration, with combined maximum power of 350kW from its two axial flux motors.
The hillclimb, which begins at an altitude of 2,800m and reaches the summit of 4,300m, is an ideal environment to showcase the strengths of an electric powertrain. TMG high-performance electric powertrain maintains full power despite the thin atmosphere at high altitude while delivering an impressive 900Nm of torque through its single-speed gearing.
The TMG EV P002 underwent a successful three-day testing session at the Paul Ricard circuit in southern France in May to verify car and powertrain performance.

The 2013 Honda Fit EV, has received a combined adjusted Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mile-per-gallon-equivalency rating of 118 MPGe, and an unprecedented low consumption rating of just 29 kilowatt hours (kWh) per 100 miles. With an EPA rated annual fuel cost of only $500 , the fun-to-drive 2013 Honda Fit EV can help consumers get more miles for each charging dollar. Full EPA MPGe ratings1 for the Fit EV are 132/105/118 city/highway/combined.
With such an efficient drivetrain, the Fit EVs 20-kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery provides the capacity to earn an EPA combined city/highway estimated driving range rating of 82-miles, allowing the Fit EV to surpass the EPA efficiency and range ratings of the Ford Focus Electric (105 MPGe, 76-mile range), Nissan Leaf (99 MPGe, 73-mile range), and Mitsubishi i-MiEV (112 MPGe, 62-mile range). The Fit EVs exceptionally efficient design encompassing everything from savvy powertrain design, weight-conscious engineering and effective aerodynamics makes the most of the Fit EVs smaller battery. Additionally, the Fit EV battery can be recharged in less than 3 hours from a low charge indicator illumination point when connected to a 240-volt circuit.
Just as important as the industry-leading fuel-efficiency and fast recharging time, as a Honda, the 2013 Fit EV will be an absolute kick to drive, said Steve Center, vice president of the American Honda Environmental Business Development Office.
The Fit EVs 92 kilowatt (123 horsepower) coaxial electric motor generates 188 ft-lb of torque, and is teamed to a chassis with a fully-independent suspension and a driver-selectable 3-mode electric drive system adapted from the CR-Z Sport Hybrid.
Honda debuted the 2013 Fit EV at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show and announced plans to begin leasing the battery-electric commuter vehicle to customers in select California and Oregon markets during the summer of 2012, followed by an East Coast rollout in 2013. The Fit EV will be offered with three-year $389/month lease2.

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM), the importer and distributor of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) in Malaysia, will showcase the Mitsubishi 100% electric car at the 25th World Gas Conference (WGC 2012) from 4-8 June 2012 (Monday-Friday) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Hosted by PETRONAS and organised by the International Gas Union (IGU), the conference also and exhibition will seek to address the developments in the energy sector, with a prime focus on the global gas industry. Themed Gas: Sustaining Future Global Growth, WGC2012 will showcase major achievements and milestones accomplished by the global gas industry.
WGC 2012 also known as the Olympics of the Gas Industry will feature, amongst others, a Concept Village which will accommodate 5,000 industry professionals as well as 10,000 trade visitors.
MMM was the first to bring in a mass-produced Electric Vehicle to Malaysia. This showcase in WGC 2012 will be held to create awareness on zero-emission of electric vehicles as well as to share the viability and practicality of electric vehicles.
Producing 49 kW of power and 180 Nm of instant torque, the i-MiEV is powered solely by electricity, and can be recharged from a regular home socket. With a top speed of 130 km/h, the four-seater vehicle can run up to 150 kilometres after charging eight hours at 230 volts. The i-MiEV also accelerates strongly and linearly for easy passing.
The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is based on the gasoline-powered i minicar, but instead of an internal combustion engine, its sole power source is a lithium-ion battery pack powering a permanent magnet electric motor. The 330V battery is located under the floor deck, while the electric motor is housed under the luggage compartment.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) brought the i-MiEV new-generation electric vehicle (EV) to market in Japan in July 2009. Since then, MMC has racked up an impressive record in promoting their full scale popularization. Although the i-MiEV has just been in the market for three years since its launch in Japan, MMC has been making steady progress in taking the i-MiEV to the world, following its introduction in European markets at the end of 2010 and the launched in North America at the end of 2011. To date, MMC have already produced more than 20,000 units.
The organizers of WGC 2012 has included various activities to be held during 4-8 June in conjunction with WGC2012, some of it includes the Kuala Lumpur Music and Lights Festival 2012 (5 June, 7-10pm) as well as an interactive display for young children between 5 and 17 years at PETROSAINS.
